Ingredients

  • 6 large tomatoes, diced
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1/4 cup tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Add onions and garlic, and cook until onions are translucent.

  2. Add diced tomatoes and tomato paste. Stir well to combine.

  3. Reduce heat to low, cover the saucepan, and let the sauce simmer for 45 minutes to 1 hour, stirring occasionally.

  4. After the sauce has simmered, stir in the chopped basil leaves, sugar, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 5 minutes.

  5. Use an immersion blender or transfer the sauce to a blender, and blend until smooth.

  6. Serve the tomato basil sauce over cooked pasta and enjoy!
