How To Make New Year Black Eyed Peas Recipe

Ingredients
- 2 cups black eyed peas
- 4 cups water
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 smoked ham hock
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 bay leaf
Instructions

Rinse the black eyed peas under cold water and remove any debris or discolored peas.

In a large pot, combine the black eyed peas, water, onion, garlic, ham hock, salt, pepper, cayenne pepper, and bay leaf.

Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat and simmer for 1 hour, or until the peas are tender. Stir occasionally.

Remove the ham hock from the pot and shred the meat. Discard the bone and return the meat to the pot.

Continue to simmer for another 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
