How To Make Cottage Pie

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 carrot, diced
  • 1 celery stalk, diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 4 cups mashed potatoes

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.

  3. Add the onion, garlic, carrot, and celery to the skillet. Cook for 5 minutes until the vegetables are tender.

  4. Stir in the frozen peas, tomato paste, beef broth, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper.

  5. Simmer the mixture for 10 minutes until the sauce has thickened.

  6. Transfer the beef filling to a 9×9 inch baking dish.

  7. Spread the mashed potatoes evenly over the beef filling.

  8. Bake for 30 minutes until the potatoes are golden brown and the filling is bubbly.

  9. Allow the cottage pie to cool for a few minutes before serving.
