Ingredients

  • 1 large head of cabbage
  • 1 cup of cooked white rice
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, minced
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • Salt, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully separate cabbage leaves and blanch them in the boiling water for about 3 minutes. Remove and set aside to cool.

  3. In a large mixing bowl, combine the cooked rice, ground beef, minced onion, minced garlic, paprika, thyme, oregano, black pepper, and salt.

  4. Place about 2 tablespoons of the meat mixture onto the center of each cabbage leaf, then roll tightly, tucking in the sides as you go. Repeat until all the leaves and filling are used.

  5. Grease a baking dish with vegetable oil and arrange the cabbage rolls in a single layer. Pour tomato sauce and chicken broth over the rolls.

  6. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the cabbage rolls are cooked through and the sauce is bubbly.

  7. Serve hot with some of the sauce spooned over the top.
