Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 pound okra, sliced
- 1 cup cornmeal
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- Vegetable oil for frying
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, mix together cornmeal, flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
-
Heat vegetable oil in a deep frying pan or skillet over medium-high heat.
-
Dredge the sliced okra in the cornmeal mixture, making sure to coat each piece evenly.
-
Carefully drop the coated okra into the hot oil, frying in small batches to avoid overcrowding the pan.
-
Fry the okra for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and crispy. Flip the okra halfway through to ensure even cooking.
-
Using a slotted spoon, transfer the fried okra to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
-
Serve the fried okra warm as an appetizer or side dish. Enjoy!
