  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until browned. Drain any excess fat.

  2. Add the onion, bell pepper, and garlic to the skillet with the beef. Cook for an additional 5 minutes, until the vegetables have softened.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk together the ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, salt, and black pepper. Pour the sauce mixture into the skillet with the beef and vegetables, stirring to combine.

  4. Reduce the heat to low and simmer the mixture for 10 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.

  5. Toast the hamburger buns, if desired. Serve the Sloppy Joe mixture on the buns.
