How To Make Southern Fried Catfish Recipe

  • 4 catfish fillets
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

  1. In a shallow dish, pour buttermilk and place catfish fillets in it. Let them soak for at least 10 minutes.

  2. In another shallow dish, combine cornmeal, flour, salt, paprika, and black pepper.

  3. Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat.

  4. Remove catfish fillets from buttermilk and dredge them in the cornmeal mixture, pressing lightly to adhere.

  5. Carefully place the coated fillets in the hot oil and cook for 4-5 minutes per side, until golden brown and crispy.

  6. Once cooked, transfer the catfish to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.

  7. Serve hot with tartar sauce or remoulade sauce.
