Ingredients

  • 9 lasagna noodles
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 can (6 ounces) tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1 egg
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Cook lasagna noodles according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.

  2. In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned. Add diced onions and minced garlic, and cook until onions are translucent.

  3. Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 10 minutes.

  4. In a small bowl, whisk together ricotta cheese and egg.

  5. Spread a thin layer of meat sauce onto the bottom of a 9×13-inch baking dish. Place 3 cooked lasagna noodles on top.

  6. Spread half of the ricotta mixture over the noodles, then sprinkle with 1 cup of mozzarella cheese. Repeat the layers with meat sauce, noodles, ricotta mixture, and mozzarella cheese.

  7. Top with a final layer of meat sauce and sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese on top.

  8. Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.

  9. Let the lasagna sit for a few minutes before serving. Cut into squares and enjoy.
