How To Make Kapusta With Mushrooms

This kapusta recipe is a great side dish for vegetarians made with baked Sauerkraut, mushroom, and spices all cooked together in one delicious dish.

Cooking: 1 hour 10 minutes
Total: 1 hour 30 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 6tbspbutter,divided
  • 2onions,chopped
  • 1portobello mushrooms,sliced, large
  • cupsmushrooms,sliced
  • ¼head cabbage,thinly sliced, medium
  • 32ozsauerkraut,drained and pressed, 1 jar
  • ½tspwhite sugar
  • ½tspthyme,dried
  • Salt and pepper,to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Heat 4 tablespoons of butter over medium heat; saute onions, and mushrooms until tender.

  3. In a medium saucepan over high heat, boil the cabbage for 10 minutes.

  4. In a 9×13-inch baking dish combine onions, mushrooms, cabbage, sauerkraut, sugar, thyme, salt, and pepper; mix well. Dot remaining 2 tablespoons butter on top. Cover.

  5. Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour, stirring every 20 minutes.
