Ingredients

  • 1 large swede, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 200g grated cheese (such as Gruyere or Cheddar)
  • 300ml double cream
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh thyme leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. In a greased baking dish, arrange a layer of swede slices.

  3. Sprinkle a handful of grated cheese on top of the swede.

  4. Repeat the layers until all the swede and cheese are used, finishing with a layer of cheese on top.

  5. In a small saucepan, heat the double cream and minced garlic until just simmering. Season with salt and pepper.

  6. Pour the cream mixture over the swede and cheese, ensuring all the layers are evenly coated.

  7. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

  8. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes, or until the swede is tender and the top is golden and bubbling.

  9. Sprinkle fresh thyme leaves over the top before serving.
