How To Make Homemade Gnocchi

Soft, pillowy potato dumplings that are perfect for busy weekday meals or special occasions.

Preparation: 45 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 1 hour

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 large potatoes, peeled and boiled until tender
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • Salted boiling water

Instructions

  1. Mash the boiled potatoes in a large mixing bowl until smooth.

  2. Mix in the beaten egg and salt until well combined.

  3. Add in the flour a little at a time, stirring with a wooden spoon until a dough forms.

  4. Knead the dough for 2-3 minutes until it becomes smooth and elastic.

  5. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts.

  6. Roll each part into a long cylinder, about 3/4 inch thick.

  7. Use a sharp knife to cut the cylinder into 1 inch long pieces.

  8. Press each piece gently with a fork to create ridges on one side.

  9. Drop the gnocchi into the boiling water and cook for about 2-3 minutes or until they float to the surface.

  10. Remove the gnocchi with a slotted spoon and place them in a bowl.
