Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 2 hours
Total: 2 hours 20 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1.5 kg turkey
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 3 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp curry powder
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 cup plain yogurt
  • 1 cup coconut milk
  • Juice of 1 lemon
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh coriander leaves, for garnish
  • For the Chapatis:
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water
  • Vegetable oil, for cooking

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).

  2. In a large oven-safe skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook until softened.

  3. In a small bowl, mix together the curry powder, ground cumin, ground coriander, and ground turmeric. Add the spice mixture to the skillet and cook for another minute.

  4. Add the turkey pieces to the skillet and cook until browned on all sides.

  5. In a separate bowl, whisk together the plain yogurt, coconut milk, lemon juice, salt, and pepper. Pour the mixture over the turkey in the skillet.

  6. Cover the skillet with aluminum foil and transfer to the preheated oven. Cook for about 2 hours or until the turkey is cooked through and tender.

  7. While the turkey is cooking, prepare the chapatis. In a large mixing bowl, combine the whole wheat flour and salt. Gradually add warm water and knead until the dough is soft and pliable.

  8. Divide the dough into small balls and roll each ball into a thin circle.

  9. Heat a skillet over medium heat and lightly brush it with vegetable oil. Cook each chapati for about 1-2 minutes on each side until lightly browned.

  10. Serve the Coronation Turkey on a bed of chapatis and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
