How To Make Cheddar Scones

Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, diced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.

Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut it into the flour until it resembles coarse crumbs.

Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.

Pour in the milk and stir until the dough comes together.

Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead it a few times until it is smooth. Do not overmix.

Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick circle and cut into 8 wedges.

Transfer the wedges to the prepared baking sheet, spacing them apart.

Brush the tops of the scones with the beaten egg.

Bake for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.

Allow the scones to cool for a few minutes before serving.
