Serves:
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs beef, cubed
- 2 tbsp vegetable oil
- 1 onion, diced
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1 tsp ground cumin
- 1 tsp ground coriander
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1/2 tsp cinnamon
- 1 cup beef broth
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 1 sheet of store-bought puff pastry
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 325°F (163°C).
-
Heat the vegetable oil in a large oven-safe pot over medium-high heat. Add the beef and brown it on all sides. Remove from the pot and set aside.
-
In the same pot, add the onion and garlic. Cook until softened and translucent.
-
Add the ground cumin, ground coriander, paprika, and cinnamon. Stir to coat the onions and garlic with the spices.
-
Return the beef to the pot and add the beef broth, tomato paste, and Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
-
Cover the pot and transfer it to the preheated oven. Braise for 2.5 to 3 hours, or until the beef is tender and falling apart.
-
Remove the pot from the oven and increase the oven temperature to 400°F (204°C).
-
Transfer the beef mixture to a baking dish. Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cover the dish with it, trimming any excess pastry.
-
Brush the puff pastry with the beaten egg to create a golden crust.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the pastry is puffed and golden.
-
Remove from the oven and let it cool slightly before serving.
