Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 15 minutes
Total: 35 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • For the dough:
  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 package (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
  • 1 egg
  • For the filling:
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup softened unsalted butter
  • For the cream cheese frosting:
  • 4 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast.

  2. In a separate bowl, mix together the warm milk, melted butter, and egg. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until a dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 5-7 minutes, or until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a towel. Let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

  4. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Roll out the dough into a large rectangle, about 1/4 inch thick.

  5. In a small bowl, mix together the brown sugar and cinnamon for the filling. Spread the softened butter over the dough, then sprinkle the sugar-cinnamon mixture evenly on top.

  6. Roll up the dough tightly from the long side, then cut into 12 equal pieces. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and cover with a towel. Let them rise for another 30 minutes.

  7. Bake the rolls for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

  8. While the rolls are cooling, prepare the cream cheese frosting. In a medium bowl, beat together the cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth and creamy.

  9. Once the rolls have cooled slightly, drizzle the cream cheese frosting over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
