Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/4 cup ice water
  • 4 large apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, butter, sugar, and salt. Use your fingers or a pastry cutter to cut the butter into the flour mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. Gradually add the ice water, a tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a disk, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

  3. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  4. In a separate bowl, combine the sliced apples, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, and cornstarch. Toss until the apples are coated evenly.

  5. Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface into a circle large enough to fit a 9-inch tart pan. Press the dough into the bottom and sides of the pan, trimming any excess.

  6. Pour the apple filling into the tart shell, spreading it out evenly.

  7. Brush the edges of the dough with the beaten egg wash.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the apples are tender.

  9. Allow the tart to cool for a few minutes before dusting with powdered sugar.

  10. Serve warm or at room temperature. Enjoy!
