Preparation: 10 minutes
Cooking: 10 minutes
Total: 20 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 4 bananas, ripe but firm
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup dark rum
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  1. In a skillet, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg to the skillet. Stir until the sugar has dissolved.

  3. Cut each banana in half lengthwise and then in half crosswise. Add the bananas to the skillet, cut side down.

  4. Cook the bananas for 2-3 minutes or until caramelized and golden brown.

  5. Carefully flip the bananas over using a spatula.

  6. Pour the rum into the skillet, stand back, and carefully ignite the rum using a long lighter or match. Allow the flames to burn out naturally.

  7. Once the flames have subsided, gently stir the bananas in the caramel sauce for another minute.

  8. Remove the skillet from the heat and let it cool slightly.

  9. Serve the Bananas Foster over vanilla ice cream.

  10. Enjoy!
