Preparation: 15 minutes
Cooking: 20 minutes
Total: 35 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, diced
  • 1/2 cup diced apple
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.

  3. Add the cold butter to the dry ingredients and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut it until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  4. Stir in the diced apple.

  5. In a separate bowl, mix together the milk and vanilla extract, then pour it into the dry ingredients.

  6. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.

  7. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.

  8. Shape the dough into a circle, about 1-inch thick.

  9. Use a sharp knife or a round biscuit cutter to cut the dough into scones.

  10. Place the scones onto the prepared baking sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, or until golden brown.

  11. Remove from the oven and allow them to cool slightly before serving.
