How To Make Shaped Vanilla Cookies

Ingredients
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions

In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.

Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.

In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.

Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until the dough comes together.

Divide the dough in half, shape each half into a disc, and wrap in plastic wrap. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Roll out one disc of dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness.

Use cookie cutters to cut out desired shapes and transfer them to the prepared baking sheet.

Gather the scraps, re-roll the dough, and continue cutting out shapes until all the dough is used.

Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the cookies are lightly golden around the edges.

Allow the cookies to cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.

Repeat the process with the remaining disc of dough.
