How To Make Turkey-Shaped Sugar Cookies

These festive cookies are shaped like turkeys and are perfect for Thanksgiving celebrations.

Ingredients

  • 2 and 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • Red, yellow, and orange food coloring
  • Candies for decorating (candy corn, chocolate chips, etc.)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. In a separate bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  3. Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually add in flour mixture until well combined.
  5. Divide dough into four equal parts and tint each part with food coloring to resemble feathers (red, yellow, and orange).
  6. Chill dough for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  8. Roll out dough on a floured surface and use turkey-shaped cookie cutter to cut dough into turkey shapes.
  9. Place on baking sheet lined with parchment paper and decorate with candies.
  10. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are lightly golden.
  11. Let cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
