How To Make Spider’s Web Cake

- 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup cocoa powder
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/2 cup hot water
- 1 cup powdered sugar (for spider web design)
- 1 tbsp milk (for spider web design)
- Black icing gel (for spider web design)
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C) and grease a round cake pan.

In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.

Add the vegetable oil, buttermilk, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix well until combined.

Gradually add the hot water and mix until the batter is smooth.

Pour the batter into the greased cake pan and smooth the top with a spatula.

Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

Remove the cake from the oven and let it cool completely.

In a small bowl, whisk together the powdered sugar and milk to make a thick glaze.

Transfer the glaze to a piping bag or a zip-top bag with a small corner snipped off.

Carefully pipe a spider web design on top of the cooled cake using the glaze.

Use the black icing gel to draw spider legs on the spider web.

Allow the glaze to set before serving.
