  • 8 dried corn husks
  • 2 cups masa harina (corn flour)
  • 1 cup chicken broth
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 2 cups cooked shredded chicken
  • 1/2 cup green salsa or salsa verde
  • 1/4 cup chopped fresh cilantro

Instructions

  1. Soak the corn husks in hot water for about an hour until soft and pliable.

  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine masa harina, chicken broth, butter, baking powder, salt, cumin, and chili powder. Mix well until a dough forms.

  3. In another bowl, mix together the shredded chicken, salsa verde, and cilantro.

  4. Spread about 1/4 cup of the masa dough onto a softened corn husk, leaving a border on all sides.

  5. Spoon 2 tablespoons of the chicken filling onto the center of the masa dough.

  6. Roll the tamale tightly, folding the sides and securing with a strip of corn husk.

  7. Repeat with remaining husks, dough, and filling.

  8. Place the tamales in a steamer basket, standing them upright.

  9. Steam the tamales for about 1 hour until the dough is firm and cooked through.

  10. Serve the tamales warm and enjoy!
