Ingredients
- 1 lb pork shoulder, cut into strips
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons hoisin sauce
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon Chinese five-spice powder
- 1 tablespoon cooking oil
- 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon white pepper
- Optional: red food coloring for traditional red coloring
Instructions

In a bowl, mix together the garlic, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, honey, Chinese five-spice powder, cooking oil, rice vinegar, sesame oil, and white pepper. If desired, add a few drops of red food coloring.

Add the pork strips to the marinade and allow them to marinate for at least 2 hours, or overnight for best results.

Preheat the grill to medium-high heat.

Remove the pork from the marinade, reserving the marinade for basting.

Grill the pork for about 8-10 minutes per side, or until it is cooked through and has a charred and caramelized exterior. Baste with the reserved marinade while grilling.
