How To Make Emeril Lagasse Muffuletta Sandwich Recipe

A classic New Orleans sandwich filled with meats, cheese, and olive salad.

Ingredients

  • 1 round loaf of Italian bread (about 10 inches in diameter)
  • 1/2 cup pitted Kalamata olives, chopped
  • 1/4 cup pimiento-stuffed green olives, chopped
  • 1/4 cup roasted red peppers, chopped
  • 1/4 cup chopped celery
  • 1/4 cup chopped red onion
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons capers, drained
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/4 cup extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 pound thinly sliced ham
  • 1/4 pound thinly sliced mortadella
  • 1/4 pound thinly sliced salami
  • 1/4 pound sliced provolone cheese

Instructions

  1. Cut the bread in half horizontally and remove some of the inside bread to make a slight depression in both halves.

  2. In a medium bowl, combine the Kalamata olives, green olives, roasted red peppers, celery, onion, garlic, capers, oregano, black pepper, vinegar, and olive oil.

  3. Spread the olive salad over the bottom half of the bread, making sure to spread it evenly all the way to the edges.

  4. Layer the ham, mortadella, salami, and provolone cheese over the olive salad.

  5. Cover the filling with the top half of the bread.

  6. Press down firmly and wrap the sandwich tightly in plastic wrap.

  7. Chill for at least 1 hour before slicing into wedges to serve.
