Ingredients

  • 1 small red cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup red wine vinegar
  • 1/2 cup chicken or vegetable broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large pan or Dutch oven, melt the butter over medium heat.

  2. Add the sliced onion and cook until softened, about 5 minutes.

  3. Add the red cabbage and sprinkle with brown sugar. Stir to coat the cabbage in the sugar and cook for about 5 minutes until slightly wilted.

  4. Pour in the red wine vinegar and broth, and season with salt and pepper to taste.

  5. Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot, and simmer for 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender.

  6. Adjust the seasoning if needed and serve hot.
