How To Make Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls

Soft and fluffy cinnamon rolls made with sourdough starter, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 25-30 minutes
Total: 5 hours (including rising time)

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 1 cup active sourdough starter
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, milk, sugar, melted butter, egg, and salt. Mix well.

  2. Add the flour, 1 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition until a dough forms.

  3. Knead the dough for 5-10 minutes until smooth and elastic. Place the dough in a greased bowl and cover with a damp cloth. Let it rise for 2-3 hours.

  4. Preheat the oven to 375°F. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 12×16 inches.

  5. Spread the softened butter evenly over the dough, leaving a small gap around the edges.

  6. Mix the sugar and cinnamon together and sprinkle over the butter.

  7. Roll up the dough tightly, starting from the long edge. Pinch the seam to seal, and cut into 12 even slices.

  8. Place the rolls in a greased baking dish and let them rise for another hour.

  9. Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown.

  10. Serve warm and enjoy!
