Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup cold unsalted butter, diced
- 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon chopped fresh sage
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper.
-
Add the cold butter to the flour mixture and use a pastry cutter or your fingers to cut it in until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese and chopped sage.
-
Pour the buttermilk into the bowl and stir until a soft dough forms.
-
Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently knead it a few times until it comes together.
-
Pat the dough into a 1-inch thick round and use a round biscuit cutter to cut out scones. Place them onto the prepared baking sheet.
-
Bake in the preheated oven for 15-20 minutes, or until the scones are golden brown.
-
Remove from the oven and let cool slightly before serving.
