Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.

  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the flour, salt, and black pepper and whisk until smooth.

  3. Gradually pour in the milk, whisking constantly, until the sauce is thickened and smooth.

  4. Stir in the grated cheese until melted.

  5. In a 9×9 inch baking dish, layer the sliced potatoes and pour the cheese sauce over the top.

  6. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top of the cheese sauce.

  7. Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is crispy and golden brown.
