How To Make Falafel Recipe

A crispy and flavorful Middle Eastern staple made of ground chickpeas, herbs, and spices.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups of dried chickpeas, soaked overnight and drained
  • 1 small onion, roughly chopped
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 1 cup of fresh parsley leaves, stems removed
  • 1 cup of fresh cilantro leaves, stems removed
  • 1 tsp of ground cumin
  • 1 tsp of ground coriander
  • 1/2 tsp of cayenne pepper
  • 1 tsp of salt
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • 5 tbsp of all-purpose flour
  • Vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  1. In a food processor, blend soaked chickpeas, onion, garlic, parsley, cilantro, cumin, coriander, cayenne pepper, and salt until coarsely pureed.

  2. Add baking powder and flour and pulse until well combined.

  3. Form 2-inch balls with your hands and flatten them slightly to form patties.

  4. In a deep pot, heat 2 inches of vegetable oil to 350°F.

  5. Fry the falafel patties in batches for 3-5 minutes until golden and crispy.

  6. Drain on paper towel-lined plates and serve hot with tahini sauce or pita bread.
