Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/4 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1/4 cup light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×9 inch baking dish.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the applesauce, molasses, honey, brown sugar, vegetable oil, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.

  3. In a separate bowl, combine the baking soda, flour, and salt. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.

  4. Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and smooth the top.

  5. Bake for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  6. Allow the gingerbread to cool in the baking dish, then dust with powdered sugar, if desired.

  7. Slice and serve.
