How To Make Simple Gingerbread House
This is a classic gingerbread house recipe that is easy to make and perfect for serving during the holiday season.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp ground ginger
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 1 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
-
In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, ginger, cinnamon, nutmeg, and baking soda.
-
In a separate bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
-
Beat in the molasses, egg, and vanilla extract until well combined.
-
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix until a dough forms. Divide the dough in half, wrap each half in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
-
Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
-
Roll out one half of the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use a gingerbread house template or cut out shapes for the walls, roof, and any additional decorations.
-
Transfer the shapes to the prepared baking sheets and bake for 10-12 minutes, or until golden brown around the edges. Allow the pieces to cool completely on wire racks before assembling the gingerbread house.
-
Once the pieces are cooled, use royal icing or melted white chocolate to adhere the walls and roof together, creating the shape of the house. Allow the icing to set before decorating with additional candies and decorations.
