How To Make Gingerbread Haunted House

A spooky and delicious gingerbread house filled with Halloween spirit.

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • Assorted Halloween candies for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.

  3. In a large bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in molasses, milk, and vanilla extract until well combined.

  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.

  6. Divide dough into four equal parts and shape each into a rectangle.

  7. Use a haunted house template or cut out your own design from the dough rectangles.

  8. Place gingerbread shapes on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10-12 minutes or until edges are slightly firm.

  9. Remove from oven and let cool completely before assembling.

  10. Once cooled, decorate the gingerbread house with assorted Halloween candies using icing as glue.
