  • 1 small red cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 1 onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup vegetable broth
  • 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon caraway seeds
  • Salt and pepper, to taste


  1. Set the Instant Pot to sauté mode and melt the butter. Add the onion and sauté until translucent.

  2. Add the red cabbage, apples, vegetable broth, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, caraway seeds, salt, and pepper to the Instant Pot. Stir well to combine.

  3. Close the Instant Pot lid and set the valve to sealing position. Cook on high pressure for 30 minutes.

  4. Once the cooking time is complete, allow for a natural pressure release for 5 minutes, then carefully do a quick release to release any remaining pressure.

  5. Serve the Instant Pot German Red Cabbage hot as a side dish with your favorite main course.
