Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup warm water
  • Vegetable oil (for frying)
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 cup pinto beans, drained and rinsed
  • Shredded lettuce, diced tomatoes, shredded cheese, sour cream (for toppings)

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add warm water, kneading until a smooth dough forms. Let the dough rest for 10 minutes.

  2. In a large skillet, heat vegetable oil over medium-high heat. Divide the dough into 4 equal parts. Roll each portion into a thin circle.

  3. Carefully place the dough circles in the hot oil, one at a time, frying until golden brown and puffed. Flip and fry the other side. Remove from oil and let drain on paper towels.

  4. In a separate skillet, cook ground beef, onion, and garlic until beef is browned and onion is tender. Drain any excess grease. Stir in chili powder, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes.

  5. To assemble the Navajo Tacos, place a fry bread on a plate. Top with a scoop of the ground beef mixture, pinto beans, lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, and sour cream. Repeat with remaining fry breads and toppings.

  6. Serve immediately and enjoy!
