Serves:
Ingredients
- 1.5 lbs (680g) pork shoulder, cut into cubes
- 1 small cabbage, thinly sliced
- 1 onion, chopped
- 3 cloves of garlic, minced
- 2 cups (480ml) chicken broth
- 1 tsp caraway seeds
- 1 tsp paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
- For the bread dumplings:
- 4 cups (480g) stale bread, cubed
- 1 cup (240ml) milk
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1/2 tsp salt
Instructions
-
In a large pot or Dutch oven, heat some oil over medium heat. Add the pork cubes and cook until browned on all sides. Remove the pork from the pot and set aside.
-
In the same pot, add the onion and garlic. Cook until softened and lightly browned. Add the cabbage and cook until wilted.
-
Return the pork to the pot. Add the chicken broth, caraway seeds, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir well to combine. Cover and simmer for 1 hour, or until the pork is tender.
-
Meanwhile, prepare the bread dumplings. In a mixing bowl, combine the stale bread cubes and milk. Let it soak for 10 minutes.
-
In a separate bowl, whisk together the beaten eggs, flour, and salt. Add this mixture to the soaked bread and mix well until everything is combined.
-
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Shape the bread dumpling mixture into small balls and drop them into the boiling water. Cook for about 10 minutes, or until the dumplings float to the surface. Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and set aside.
-
Serve the pork and cabbage mixture over the bread dumplings. Enjoy!
