  • 2 dozen fresh oysters
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 cup fresh breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the oysters in a colander and rinse under cold water. Set aside to drain.

  2. In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Whisk in the flour until smooth and cook for 1 minute.

  3. Gradually whisk in the milk and cream until the mixture thickens. Stir in the salt, black pepper, cayenne pepper, and Worcestershire sauce.

  4. Remove the saucepan from heat. Add the oysters to the sauce and stir gently to combine.

  5. Transfer the oyster mixture to a greased baking dish. Sprinkle the breadcrumbs evenly over the top.

  6. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the mixture is bubbly.

  7. Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped parsley. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
