Ingredients

  • 1 (12-pound) turkey
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon pepper
  • 1 onion, quartered
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 4 sprigs fresh rosemary
  • 4 sprigs fresh thyme
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 325°F (163°C).

  2. Remove the giblets and neck from the turkey cavity and pat the turkey dry with paper towels.

  3. Place the turkey on a rack in a roasting pan.

  4. In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, salt, and pepper. Brush the turkey with the butter mixture, making sure to coat the entire surface of the turkey.

  5. Stuff the turkey cavity with the onion, garlic, rosemary, and thyme.

  6. Pour the chicken broth into the bottom of the roasting pan.

  7. Roast the turkey in the preheated oven for approximately 15 minutes per pound, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C) in the thickest part of the thigh.

  8. Baste the turkey with the pan drippings every 30 minutes.

  9. Once the turkey is cooked, remove it from the oven and tent it with foil. Let it rest for at least 20 minutes before carving.
