How To Make Grandma’s Southern Mac and Cheese

Ingredients
- 8 ounces macaroni
- 2 cups sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
- 1 cup whole milk
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a casserole dish.

Cook the macaroni according to package instructions, then drain and set aside.

In a saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat. Stir in the flour and cook for 1 minute.

Slowly whisk in the milk and cook until the mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.

Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in 1 ½ cups of shredded cheddar cheese until melted and smooth.

Add the cooked macaroni to the cheese sauce, stirring until the macaroni is evenly coated.

Pour the macaroni and cheese mixture into the greased casserole dish.

In a small bowl, combine the remaining ½ cup of shredded cheddar cheese, salt, black pepper, and paprika. Sprinkle this mixture over the top of the macaroni.

Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, until the cheese is bubbly and slightly golden.

Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
