Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp ground anise
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1/3 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup sliced almonds

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a medium bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, salt, and ground anise.

  3. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.

  4. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then add the almond extract.

  5. Add the dry ingredients and milk, alternating each and beginning and ending with the dry ingredients.

  6. Fold in the sliced almonds.

  7. Pour the batter into a greased 9-inch cake pan and bake for 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

  8. Let the cake cool in the pan for 5 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
