Ingredients

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter, cut into small pieces

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

  2. In a saucepan, heat the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, and black pepper over medium heat until it begins to simmer.

  3. Remove from heat and let the mixture sit for 5 minutes.

  4. Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish.

  5. Pour half of the cream mixture over the potatoes, making sure they are all evenly coated.

  6. Sprinkle half of the grated Gruyere cheese on top.

  7. Repeat layers with the remaining potatoes, cream mixture, and cheese.

  8. Dot the top with butter pieces.

  9. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes.

  10. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the potatoes are fork-tender.

  11. Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
