This is a recipe for creating your own sourdough starter, which is the base for making delicious homemade sourdough bread.

  • 1 cup bread flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup whole wheat flour

Instructions

  1. Day 1: In a glass jar, mix together 1/2 cup bread flour, 1/4 cup whole wheat flour, and 1/2 cup water. Cover loosely with a cloth.

  2. Day 2: Stir the mixture well. Cover and let sit at room temperature.

  3. Day 3: Repeat step 2.

  4. Day 4: The mixture should start to bubble. Discard half of the mixture, then add 1/2 cup bread flour and 1/4 cup water. Stir well and cover.

  5. Day 5: The mixture should be bubbly and have a tangy smell. It is now ready to use in your sourdough bread recipe!
