How To Make Sourdough Pretzels
Soft, chewy and slightly tangy pretzels made with sourdough starter.
Serves:
Ingredients
- 1 cup sourdough starter
- 1 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp brown sugar
- 1/2 cup warm water
- 1 tbsp baking soda
- 1 egg yolk
- Coarse salt for sprinkling
Instructions
-
In a large mixing bowl, combine sourdough starter, salt, flour, brown sugar and warm water. Mix well until the dough forms.
-
Knead the dough for 5-8 minutes until it becomes smooth.
-
Cover the dough and let it rest for 6-8 hours until doubled in size.
-
Preheat the oven to 425°F.
-
Divide the dough into 8 equal pieces and roll each piece into 18-inch long ropes.
-
Make a U-shape with the rope and fold the ends downward, pressing them into the bottom curve of the U to form a pretzel shape.
-
In a shallow dish, dissolve baking soda into 3 cups of warm water. Dip each pretzel into the water mixture and then place them onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
-
Mix the egg yolk with 1 tablespoon of water and brush the mixture onto each pretzel.
-
Sprinkle coarse salt onto each pretzel and bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.
-
Serve warm and enjoy!
