How To Make Piernik (Polish Gingerbread)

A traditional Polish gingerbread with a warm and spicy flavor, perfect for the holiday season.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground cloves
  • 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (180°C). Grease and flour a baking pan.

  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.

  3. In another bowl, beat the eggs. Add the honey, brown sugar, melted butter, and milk. Mix well.

  4. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring until well combined.

  5. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top.

  6. Bake for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.

  7. Allow the gingerbread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.

  8. Serve sliced and enjoy!
