Ingredients

  • 4 celery stalks, sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup grated Gruyere cheese
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a baking dish with butter.

  2. In a pot of boiling salted water, cook the celery until tender, around 5 minutes. Drain and set aside.

  3. In a saucepan, heat the cream over medium heat until hot.

  4. In the prepared baking dish, layer half of the cooked celery and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Pour half of the heated cream over the celery.

  5. Sprinkle half of the grated Gruyere cheese on top, followed by half of the breadcrumbs.

  6. Repeat the layers with the remaining celery, salt, pepper, cream, cheese, and breadcrumbs.

  7. Dot the butter over the top layer and cover the dish with foil.

  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes until the top is golden and bubbly.

  9. Allow the celery gratin to cool for a few minutes before serving.
