Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp ground anise
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup molasses
  • 1 egg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
  2. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, anise, and salt.
  3. In a separate large bowl, use an electric mixer to beat the butter and brown sugar until creamy.
  4. Add molasses and egg, beating until well combined.
  5. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, beating until dough forms.
  6. Form dough into 1-inch balls and place on parchment paper lined baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  7. Bake for 10-12 minutes or until lightly browned and set.
  8. Allow to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
