Preparation: 30 minutes
Cooking: 40 minutes
Total: 1 hour 10 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon curry powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon thyme
  • 1/4 teaspoon paprika
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

  2. Gradually add cold water to the flour mixture and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.

  3. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook until they become translucent.

  4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until it is browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.

  5. Stir in the curry powder, thyme, paprika, turmeric, cayenne pepper (if using), and salt and pepper to taste. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the filling cool.

  6. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  7. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Using a round cookie cutter or a small bowl, cut out circles from the dough.

  8. Place a spoonful of the cooled beef filling on one half of each dough circle. Fold the other half over to form a half-moon shape. Use a fork to seal the edges of the patties.

  9. Transfer the patties to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.

  10. Remove from the oven and let the patties cool slightly before serving.
