Serves:
Ingredients
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, cut into small cubes
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 1 pound ground beef
- 1/2 onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon curry powder
- 1/2 teaspoon thyme
- 1/4 teaspoon paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon turmeric
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
Instructions
-
In a large bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt. Cut in the cold butter using a pastry cutter or your hands until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
-
Gradually add cold water to the flour mixture and mix until the dough comes together. Shape the dough into a ball, wrap it in plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
-
In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic and cook until they become translucent.
-
Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until it is browned and cooked through, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks.
-
Stir in the curry powder, thyme, paprika, turmeric, cayenne pepper (if using), and salt and pepper to taste. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld. Remove the skillet from the heat and let the filling cool.
-
Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
-
On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. Using a round cookie cutter or a small bowl, cut out circles from the dough.
-
Place a spoonful of the cooled beef filling on one half of each dough circle. Fold the other half over to form a half-moon shape. Use a fork to seal the edges of the patties.
-
Transfer the patties to the prepared baking sheet and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown.
-
Remove from the oven and let the patties cool slightly before serving.
