Ingredients

  • 8 cups of peeled, cored, and sliced apples
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup of cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice

Instructions

  1. In a large pot, combine the sliced apples, sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, nutmeg, water, and lemon juice.

  2. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens and the apples are tender, about 15 minutes.

  3. Transfer the cooked apple pie filling into sterilized canning jars, leaving 1/2-inch headspace.

  4. Wipe the jar rims clean, place the lids and rings on top, and tighten until fingertip tight.

  5. Process the jars in a boiling water bath for 20 minutes.

  6. Remove the jars from the water bath and let them cool completely before storing in a cool, dark place.
