  • 2 cups fresh cherries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • 1 cinnamon stick
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Wash and pit the cherries.

  2. In a large saucepan, combine the cherries, sugar, lemon juice, cinnamon stick, and vanilla extract.

  3. Heat the mixture over medium heat until the sugar has dissolved, stirring occasionally.

  4. Reduce the heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes, or until the cherries are soft and the syrup has thickened.

  5. Remove the cinnamon stick and let the mixture cool.

  6. Transfer the preserved cherries into sterile jars and store in the refrigerator.
