How To Make Apple Turnovers Recipe

Preparation: 20 minutes
Cooking: 25 minutes
Total: 45 minutes

Serves:

Ingredients

  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and diced
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 package (17.3 ounces) frozen puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg, beaten
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the diced apples, granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and butter. Cook over medium heat until the apples are tender, about 8-10 minutes. Stir in the flour and cook for an additional 2 minutes. Remove from heat and let cool.

  3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out the thawed puff pastry into a 12×12-inch square. Cut the square into 4 equal squares.

  4. Place a spoonful of the apple filling in the center of each pastry square. Fold one corner of the square over the filling to create a triangle shape. Press the edges together with a fork to seal.

  5. Transfer the turnovers to the prepared baking sheet. Brush the tops with the beaten egg.

  6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15-18 minutes, or until the turnovers are golden brown and puffed.

  7. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Dust with powdered sugar before serving.
