Sour Cream Cut-Out Cookies Recipe

These sour cream cut out cookies are not really that sweet, so you can dress it up with colored sugars, icing, or even chocolate. These have always been my very favorite cookie.


Use fun shapes and colored icing to make these sour cream cut out cookies even prettier.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ¾ cup sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 4 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 1 tsp nutmeg

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.

  2. Cream together butter and sugar.
  3. Add the sour cream, egg, and the vanilla; mix well.

  4. Stir in baking powder, baking soda, salt, and nutmeg.

  5. Gradually add flour until dough is too difficult to stir.
  6. Mix the rest by hand.
  7. Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll out to ¼- to ½-inch thickness.

  8. Use your favorite cookie cutters.
  9. Space cookies about 1 ½ inch apart on a greased cookie sheet.

  10. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes in oven or until lightly browned at the edges.

  11. Cool completely on wire racks.
  12. Decorate with icing, colored sugar (if using colored sugar, sprinkle cookies before baking), or dip tops in melted chocolate.
